SkillsUniThe 2010 SkillsUSA University is a great opportunity for instructors and students to attend free educational seminars on a variety of topics. SkillsUSA University features the latest trends, new technology and the best career opportunities. Seminars will be held at the Marriott Downtown and Bartle Hall. Sessions are one hour except as noted. Topics include new industry trends and technology, career paths, safety programs, SkillsUSA programs and more. All participants receive a certificate of completion, and many sessions include free handouts, software, curriculum previews and other resources for teachers, students and parents.

STUDENT NEWSCAST PLANNING & PRODUCTION
For educators and students in Broadcast News & TV/Video Production.

Topics covered will include appropriate student newscast planning, management and production techniques for teachers and students followed by questions and answers. Complete newscast planning, scripting writing, video editing instruction, rundown management teleprompter control, graphics management and other newscast production aspects will be thoroughly demonstrated live during the session. Handouts, resources and giveaways will include free tutorials, instructional DVD’s and television production software. Plan to attend the session on the NEW TV Production Assessment Overview as well.

SOUND FOR FILM AND TELEVISION PRODUCTION
For educators and students in Audio and Radio.

This lecture will provide the students with real world experiences and stories. There will be heavy emphasis on improvising and trouble shooting in the studio as well as in the field. Plan to attend the sessions on Cinema Production and the NEW Radio Skill Assessment as well.

CINEMA PRODUCTION: TV Product Development Revisited
For educators and students in Cinema and Video Related Classes.

Interested in Film Making and Cinema Production? Hear about the exciting redesign of the Video Product Development competition for 2011. This new competition relates to the cinema focused classroom and studio. We will provide information about contest layout, the various categories and topics, and submission criteria.  This is an opportunity for students and instructors to provide input prior to finalization of the contest.   Plan to attend the session on Sound for Film and Television Production as well.

For students and teachers.  The third session I'm doing is full of
tips for winning video contests.  I've judged many contests and the most
common errors I've seen are all combined in a humorous yet horrible video
which we then take apart to point out all the errors in the hopes that
students will not repeat the errors.

THE TV PRODUCTION CLASSROOM: TIPS AND TRICKS TO MAKE IT WORK

Primarily for video production teachers

Includes lots of classroom management tips along with a walk thru of the Instructor's manual of Mr. Harris’ textbook.  The second edition of this book is due to be out this summer and there should have some chapters to share.
